In 1935, about 20 miles from Judique, a ship listed in a storm and the crew abandoned ship in a lifeboat. The lifeboat overturned and several people were separated from it, and the oars were lost. Somehow, the survivors righted the lifeboat and despite being swamped again, they eventually washed upon shore at Judique where the lifeboat jammed between rocks. Some of the survivors struggled off to get help. Five men died; seven survived.Memories of the story are published in Cape Breton Magazine.
