Lyrics
If you sit I’ll tell a story that happened March 12th oh-nine
When the crew of flight 491 who were running right on time
Everyone was ready and eager for to go
Not knowing what lay there in the dark, cold sea below
Their families waved goodbye as they fly high off the foam?
Not knowing what life had in store for the ones they dearly loved
No one knows the danger that lurks up on the wave
For the ocean has no friends, it’s just a cold, dark, watery grave.
Some were leaving wives and children and parents they loved dear
Brothers and sisters and friends from far and near
This would be the last time that their loved ones they would see
Because all on board 491 would crash into the sea.
When the news it spread around that the Cougar had gone down
With all hands on board, 18 to be found
17 young brave men and one sweet colleen
Beautiful Allison Maher, our southern inshore? queen.
But there was one sole survivor who lived to tell the tale
His name is Robert Decker and he fought the ocean brave
All of his co-workers were lost in that tragedy
They gave their lives to 491 that crashed into the sea.
Well the people of our country were saddened on that day
While all across the nation, they gathered for to pray
Seventeen young brave souls were lost out on the foam
But just one sole survivor would be coming back home.
So now I end my story and I know you will agree
That the cruel Atlantic Ocean is no friend to you or me
May they rest in peace, each and every one
And God bless the families and the friends of flight 491.
May they rest in peace, each and every one
And God bless the families and the friends of flight 491.
