Salt Tears in Salt Water

Like the song “Miss Ally,” this song was composed within a day or two of the news breaking about the loss of 5 young fishermen on the Miss Ally. A  friend brought the song to my attention after it circulated on Facebook.

Lyrics

Once I loved a fine young sailor
He once took away my heart
Now he’s married Neptune’s daughter
From her side he’ll never part

Salt tears in salt water
Carry my Love home to me

Once he held a proud young lassie
He once held his hand in mine
Once he laughed at all life’s t roubles
Now I cry alone with mine

Salt tears in salt water
Carry my Love home to me

Once he kissed our sleeping baby
He once rocked her in the night
Now to her his memory’s fading
Gone like shadow In the light

Salt tears in salt water
Carry my Love home to me

Once I loved a fine young sailor
Silver the fish he caught, but then
While fishermen harvest the sea
The sea will harvest our fishermen.

Salt tears in salt water
Carry my Love home to me

Thanks to Emily McEwan-Fujita for bringing this song to my attention.
