Westray Mine – Wood

You can hear Wood perform this song here:

Lyrics

Westray mine in Nova Scotia, that’s the place that touched my heart,
Where 26 men died in vain down in the earth deep in the dark,
Born a miner, died a miner,” I heard someone remark,
But just the thought of those poor souls lost deep in the dark.

It brings a tear drop to my eyes that I will never wipe away,
So many wasted lives, for them there’s only yesterday,
They pushed them hard and did not care, I just don’t understand,
How could someone care so little for the lives of their fellow man.

It must take a special kind of man to work deep in the earth,
To all day long smash through stone and breathe in dust and dirt,
To feed their families and keep their homes, they’ve learned they must push on,
Dreaming of their loved ones and of better days to come.

It brings a tear drop to my eyes that I will never wipe away,
So many wasted lives, for them there’s only yesterday,
Loving husbands, sons, and dads, all lost deep in the mind,
Now broken hearts and shattered dreams that’s all that’s left behind…
Left behind from the mine, WESTRAY mine.
